Excellent teachers found inside the halls of every Lethbridge School District No. 51 school.

On Wednesday evening in Taber, the focus was on one educator in particular, as Sarah Williamson was recognized was the District’s nominee for the 2018 Edwin Parr Teaching Award.

“It is a true pleasure to be here tonight with you all and to be a part of what I believe to be the most beautiful and magical profession in the world,” said Williamson. “As I began to reflect on what brought me to this nomination, it became clear that there were many important moments and inspiring people have led me to stand before you this evening. I can say with full certainty that the support and guidance of mentors, coaches, administrators, family and friends have brought me here to be with you all tonight.”

She added the support and guidance of mentors, coaches, administrators, family and friends helped bring her to this moment.

“With that, this nomination extends far beyond myself as an individual and reaches my beloved students, remarkable colleagues, and essentially every person who has supported me on this path up until this point. You give me strength to grow and learn alongside my students, and I thank you for that.”

Williamson encouraged her fellow first-year teachers to cherish the moment with the people who mean the most to them in their lives.

“I would also like to say that it is a profound honour and true privilege to be acknowledged alongside each one of you this evening and I feel very lucky to be a part of this teaching society with you all.”

The Grade 7 Lakie teacher also gave a thank you to the Alberta School Boards Association for providing a platform to inspire educators.

“With this nomination, I vow that I will continue to strive to learn with my students, grow with my community, and work towards becoming the best version of myself.”

The Alberta School Board Association Edwin Parr Teacher Award aims to honour a first-year Kindergarten to Grade 12 teacher who has put in a minimum of 100 full-time equivalent days of teaching service within the current school year.
