Grade 7 Skills Day at G.S. Lakie Middle School includes 10 stations
Last year, G.S. Lakie Middle School introduced an Innovative Design program in response to the new CTF curriculum, which included a Grade 7 Skills Day and a Grade 8 Build Day. It involved numerous community partnerships and was well received by students and parents. This year, the second annual Grade 7 Skills Day was held on Nov. 7, with a focus on giving students an opportunity to experience/learn different career-related skills.
The theme of the day was, Skills that you should know that could lead to your career.
Once again, Lakie partnered with local businesses and Career Transitions to set up 10 stations. Students will had the opportunity to choose their top five and spend 25-35 minutes at each station through the morning, learning new skills and making career connections.
Some stations included:
- Basic Vehicle Maintenance (check fluids etc)
- Word Working and Power Tools
- Basic Electrical (Light Switches, Circuits)
- Basic Plumbing (PVC and Copper work)
- Bike Repair
- Small engine repair
- Work Place Safety
- Lethbridge Iron Workers Union
