Track & Field Info
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This year has been a year of reinvention at G.S. Lakie Middle School. We have been exploring new ideas and expanding on others as the school strives to be innovative its pedagogical philosophy. As part of that process, our new Phys Ed. and coaching members have been aspiring to create a culture of “Do It Daily for Life” which is a philosophy taken right from the Alberta program of studies for physical education.
This year, we would like to try something new by including our entire school population at our Lakie Track & Field event. Our Track & Field coaches, in coordination with our Phys Ed. teachers, have been working tirelessly to organize a Track & Field event that will be fun and engaging for all of our gators, no matter where their physical strengths lie. Therefore, we would like to inform you that on Tuesday, May 14th, our school day will take place at the U of L Community Field.
PLEASE SEE THE LINK BELOW FOR THE TRACK & FIELD SCHEDULE
The following are important dates for the Track & Field Season:
Lakie Track & Field Club: Open invite to ALL students beginning after Easter break and running after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays all the way until the Alberta South Zones Meet
Lakie Track & Field Event: Tuesday, May 14th 2019 at the U of L Community Field. All students will be registered to participate in at least one event. (regular school day but at the U of L field)
LSAA City Track Meet: Wednesday, May 22nd 2019 at the U of L Community Field. Students must qualify for their event at the Lakie Track & Field Event in order to be invited to compete at this event
Alberta South Zones Meet: Tuesday, June 4th 2019 at Medicine Hat High School Track Facility. Students must qualify for their event at the LSAA City Track Meet in order to be invited to complete at this event. Please Note - Only Bantam and Midget Athletes attend this event.
The Track & Field season has very short turn around times in terms of hosting school events, tabulating results, formulating qualifier lists for the LSAA City Track Meet, tabulating those results, and then formulating teams for the Alberta South Zone Track Meet. Therefore, in an effort to streamline the process and to minimize the number of back and forth paper exchanges between the school and home, we are requesting that parents sign permission and waiver forms for both the Lakie Track Meet, as well as the LSAA City Track Meet. Please Note – This does NOT mean that your child will be automatically attending the LSAA City meet, as they must first qualify for their events at the Lakie Track Meet.
Should your child be lucky enough to earn a chance to complete at the Alberta South Zone Track Meet, another letter and permission form will come home informing you of that opportunity. Please note that there is a small $10 fee required to attend the Alberta South Zones Track Meet.
Please read and sign the following forms to ensure that your child has the opportunity to compete in these great events. It is our hope that all of our Gator Athletes are able to find one or two events that peak their interest, and perhaps even find a talent that did not yet know they had!
Thank you for taking the time to complete and sign all of these forms. We thank you for your support in our efforts to get students to “Do It Daily for Life”!
