Courtney Wehlage

About Me

My name is Courtney Wehlage and this is my first year at G.S. Lakie Middle School!  I am so excited to be a part of this amazing team of talented educators.

I graduated with a B.FA (dramatic arts)/B.ED from the University of Lethbridge in 2006.  After that, I started a fulltime job at FP Walshe in Fort Macleod, teaching everything from grade 6 to grade 12.  During my time there, I worked on several play productions, helped with student council, and in my last year I was fortunate to be the grad advisor to a fantastic group of graduates!  FP Walshe was a great experience that taught me many things about my philosophy as an educator.  I am excited to continue that growth here at G.S. Lakie!

I believe that all students are different, and therefore learn at different rates and in different ways.  It is my job to provide a variety of learning experiences so that all students can learn and grow throughout the year.  I believe that education is about teaching the whole student, and it is through the Alberta curriculum that we are able to assist students in learning about themselves, their families and the world around them.  I love watching students find joy in learning and I love helping them along their individual journeys.

This year at G.S. Lakie I will be teaching Language Arts and Social Studies to the 6 C/D patterns.  In term 1, I will teach Design 6; in term 2, I will teach Film Studies 6; and in term 3, I will teach Leadership 6!  In addition to these classes, I will be co-directing the spring production of “New York or Bust” by John Malcom and working on other various productions that Lakie has to offer.

I am excited about the enormous amount of opportunities that Lakie has to offer, and I look forward to getting to know the staff and students of this talented school.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email or call me at any time.  My door is always open!
