Tavis Newman

Greetings! I’ve been teaching at Lakie, the most fantastic school in the world, for most of my career. I specialize in Social Studies and English Language Arts, and I also have experience in the roles of learning support and school administration. I also oversee the school’s yearbook creation. 

I’m a Saskatchewan-born boy; I was raised on a grain farm outside of Tisdale in the NE corner of the province, a couple of hours past Saskatoon. After taking an English degree at the University of Saskatchewan, I moved to Calgary to complete a Journalism degree at Mount Royal. My first job was working as a reporter and photographer for the Taber Times. While covering education stories for the paper, I got interested in teaching as a career, so I headed back to school at the University of Lethbridge to take my Education degree. I have also completed a Masters degree in Brain-Based Teaching from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.

When I’m not at the school, I’m spending time with my beautiful family—my wife and our two sons. And when I’m not busy stumbling through the adventures of parenthood, you can usually find me in my backyard gardening, in my garage working on a building project, out hiking in the mountains, or out on walks with our labradoodle, Hank.
