I started the dance program at G.S. Lakie Middle School in 2007. Thanks to a very supportive atmosphere, the Lakie program has grown substantially over the years. There are over four hundred students taking dance classes each year and we also host a variety of performing arts productions throughout the school year. The program started with a boom box and a small classroom area with desks pushed to the side. We are now very fortunate to have a state of the art dance room accompanied by our very own convertible theatre!
I grew up in a small town in Northern Alberta and I have been training and studying Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary and Hip-Hop since I was in elementary school. I completed my degree in Kinesiology and Education at the University of Lethbridge. While I was studying at the U of L I founded the Lethbridge Alberta Dance Company. After ten years as the artistic director of the company I made the transition to a full-time teaching position at G.S. Lakie Middle School.
One of the highlights of my dance career was traveling to New York to dance with two of my favorite choreographers, Mia Michaels and Wade Robson, at a workshop in New York. I am very passionate about the arts and I can honestly say I love my job! Teaching students is very rewareding and I am so thankful to be at such an outstanding school.Click the following link to be taken to the Grade 7 calendar: CALENDARClick the following link to be taken to the Grade 7 calendar: CALENDAR
